Misson Statement

The Jubilee Trio was inspired by the Biblical tradition of regularly celebrating a Jubilee year during which all slaves were freed, amnesty was granted and wrongs were redressed. This Jubilee tradition was acknowledged by America's founding fathers when they inscribed on the Liberty Bell "You shall declare liberty throughout the land and to all the inhabitants thereof." Woven through our American musical history are occasions when "Jubilee singers" have celebrated the intersection of community, social justice and music. Perhaps the most famous are the Fisk Jubilee Singers who, following the Emancipation act, toured nationally and internationally to raise money for the establishment of Fisk University.
